ASX-2B
Stereo Music and Cellphone Adapter

ASX-2B Installation Guide(.pdf)

Features

The ASX-2B device is a stereo headphone music amplifier and cellphone adapter for aircraft applications. It connects to portable music players or panel-mounted music sources and adds high-fidelity stereo music to existing monophonic or stereo audio installations. Plus, it connects to cellphones and musicphones, allowing voice communications through your aviation headset while in flight or on the ground (subject to local regulations).

Music is automatically muted to a low level when communications audio is detected. This allows normal radio communications, alarms and intercom audio to be heard normally without interference from the music source. Automuting may be turned off with an external control switch, if desired.

Cellphone communications are not muted, but are mixed with primary communications audio from the avionics input. Both mono and stereo cellphones (musicphones) are supported. Musicphones combine the cellular telephone functions with stereo music.

The ASX-2B device is contained in a small 25-pin D-subminiature connector shell that takes no valuable panel space and is adaptable to portable use. It is powered from the aircraft electrical system, and provides about double the power of 9 volt battery powered amplifiers.

The device will drive headphones with a minimum of 32 Ohms impedance, making it compatible with portable music player headphones as well as standard 300 Ohm aircraft headphones.

The amplifier has a nominal gain of 2 for the mono inputs and a nominal gain of 5 for the music and cellphone inputs. When connected to 300 Ohm impedance loads, the amplifier provides rated music power over the frequency range of 40 Hz to 15 KHz.

AMX-2A
10 Channel Audio Mixer Amplifier
"Mini Audio Panel"

AMX-2A Installation Guide(.pdf)

Features

The AMX-2A device is a 10-channel audio mixer and headphone amplifier for aircraft applications.

It functions as a mini audio panel for combining various communications, navigation, alarm, warning and other audio sources, amplifies them and provides a seamless interface into common intercom systems-- all in a small package that takes no valuable panel space.

System wiring is greatly simplified and the unit occupies a very small footprint, with all of the circuitry contained in a standard 25-pin D-subminiature connector shell. A large number of signal ground pins are provided to simplify the connections of cable shields. All of the audio connections are made to the 25-pin connector built into the unit.

Four of the ten audio inputs have volume controls that are screwdriver adjustable, while the other six are fixed level for connection to instruments that have their own volume adjustment capability.

The output is designed to drive headphone busses directly and has a unique capability of combining the audio from a primary comm transceiver onto the output in a fail-safe fashion. It is compatible with all intercom systems, including those that do not provide an auxiliary input.

The flexibility of the device allows for use as an audio mixer, as a headphone amplifier or as a combination of both as the application requires.

AL-1A
Tone Annunciator

AL-1A Installation Guide(.pdf)

Features

The AL-1A device is a tone annunciator module for aircraft applications such as stall or oil pressure warning systems. It senses either high-level or low level inputs from switches or sensors and generates a pulsed (beeped) tone in the aircraft audio system.

All of the electronics are contained in a 15-pin D-subminiature connector backshell, making the device compact, light and easy to install.

Tone frequency is adjustable from about 400 Hz to 4 KHz, and the beep rate is adjustable from about 1 Hz to 10 Hz.

The inputs have 2 kOhm pull-up or pull-down resistors to provide wetting current to external switches or sensors. Wetting current helps to keep switches and relay contacts clean by providing a small amount of current that burns off contamination.

Usually, only one sense input (SN or SP) is used at a time. SN is used for sensing inputs that are grounded, while SP is used for sensing inputs that are switched to +12 volts. It is also possible to use both inputs to sense two separate circuits-- one low going (grounded) and the other high going (+12 volts). The tone will sound if either input is activated.

AMX-1A

Sigtronics Audio Bus Expansion Device

AMX-1A Datasheet (.pdf)

Features

The AMX-1A is an audio bus expansion device that simplifies the connection of shielded audio wiring to Sigtronics SPA-400 and Sport-200 intercoms*. It adapts the 12-pin intercom box connector to a 50-pin D-Sub connector for local panel wiring, and to a 15-pin D-Sub connector for off-panel wiring, such as remote or back seat headset jacks or stick-mounted switches.

Four of the ten audio channels are provided with on-board series resistors, allowing direct connection to low-impedance audio sources such as some VHF Comms and external music inputs. One audio channel supports a volume control to simplify the connection to sources that do not allow audio level control, such as some EFIS systems or engine monitors.

All audio connections have two grounds associated with them-- which may be connected to cable shields and signal grounds, as required. Controls such as push-to-transmit signals each have one associated ground. This plethora of grounds greatly simplifies the wiring of any required shielded cable.

Go to www.sigtronics.com for more information on the SPA-400 and Sport-200 intercoms.

*Note: Can be used with Sport 200S (stereo) intercoms, however headsets and music inputs must be wired directly to the intercom. The AMX-1A is then used to support all of the monophonic audio sources.

RM-1B

Wiring Harness Expander for the Rocky Mountain Instrument Micromonitor Engine Monitor

RM-1B Datasheet (.pdf) (product shipped prior to September, 2006)

RM-1B Datasheet (.pdf) (product shipped since September, 2006)

Features

The RM-1B device simplifies the wiring to a RMI Micromonitor engine monitor by providing two expansion connectors.  Firewall forward connections use a 50 pin D-Sub and panel connections use a 15-pin D-Sub.  Using two connectors this way allows for a panel to be disconnected and removed from the aircraft.

The RM-1B device mounts directly to the back of the Micromonitor controller tray, replacing the stock 36 pin edge connector. On-board volume control allows the adjustment of audio levels without disassembling the engine monitor. An alarm buzzer is mounted to the board(not shown in photo), simplifying wiring and mechanical mounting.

On-board transient voltage suppression helps to protect the engine monitor from electrical surges on the main electrical bus during engine cranking.

The RM-1B device supports the Micromonitor serial input/output capability (announced March, 2005).

Go to www.rkymtn.com for more information on the Micromonitor engine monitor.

GroundTrakTM Electrical Bonding System:

The GroundTrak Electrical Bonding System is an exclusive method of effectively terminating the shields and ground wires of shielded wiring. By providing multiple ground point connections on a D-subminiature connector, it's easy to provide individual ground connections for each cable. No more failure-prone daisy-chaining of cable shields, and updates to wiring no longer requires cutting and soldering.

For example, if you open this .pdf document and inspect the main application drawing, you can see that the AMX-2A device provides individual grounds for each shield connection. Contrast this with the PS-Engineering intercom that requires that the shields each be connected to each other before being wired to the intercom.
